Nature Play

At Lockleys Primary School we promote Nature Play. Our aim is to provide outdoor learning spaces that support physical health, socio-emotional development, development of the senses, and overall wellbeing and mental health.

Through play we encourage students to move, be creative and imaginative, problem solve, build confidence, emotional resilience and have fun interacting with their peers.

Our play spaces have been developed by our school community in conjunction with architects, playground designers and nature play and sustainability consultants.

Sand Water Play

In our sandpit areas students are encouraged to play with sand and water. The sandpit area has a rainwater pump and a sand kitchen area. Students play, experiment and learn through their experiences with sand and water.

Loose Parts Play

On the oval students have the opportunity to explore and create using a variety of man-made and natural objects, which can be moved, and manipulated stimulating creativity, adventure and a sense of fun.

Cubby Building

On the oval students are able to design and work in groups to construct bush shelters and engage in creative play in what the students have called the forest.
